This NotePlan update brings you the all-new Card View (Kanban!) and the powerful Notes Table, now available on iPhone and iPad. These features are designed to help you visualize projects and notes, making planning and productivity smoother than ever.
You can build a Kanban board by using the new view style "Cards". If you group your notes in this view, you will get a Kanban view.
How to get started?
The Cards view is part of the Notes Table. Open any folder and set the view style using the menu button (on iOS) or the toolbar (on Mac) at the top from "List" to "Cards".
Next step is to group your cards. Select "Group by" in the toolbar (Mac), or menu (iOS) and choose a value.
Now your notes are grouped into columns.
If you are not using Frontmatter in your notes, you won't see many "Group by" values besides the defaults. For a real Kanban board, you would need to add properties like "Status" with values like "To Do", "Doing", "Done" (at least).
Add these properties as Frontmatter to your notes to make them available in the "Group By" drop down.
What is Frontmatter?
Frontmatter is metadata added at the top of your notes (before the title), enclosed within triple dashes (---). This metadata can include fields like tags, dates, or status values. For example, you can add status: To Do to a note to group it in the "To Do" column.
Example:
---
status: To Do
---
# Note Title
The Notes Table is now also available on iPhone and iPad. It's also powered by frontmatter, so you can add custom fields besides the defaults of title, folder, date and tags.
