Frequently Asked Questions

All your data is saved locally on your device — we don't have servers and don't store anything in the cloud. Your data is protected by iOS device-level encryption (when a passcode is enabled). When data is sent to services like Groq for transcription and OpenAI or Mistral AI for AI processing, it is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS.

No. Your voice recordings are transcribed through Groq (or Mistral AI), and notes are processed through OpenAI or Mistral AI — none of these services use API data to train their models. We do not use your data for any purpose other than providing the App's features to you.

By default, no. Audio is recorded temporarily on your device, sent to Groq (or Mistral AI as a fallback) for transcription over an encrypted connection, and then immediately deleted from your device. However, you can opt in to keep audio on your device for playback. Retained audio is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers. You can delete it at any time.

You can delete individual notes within the app — they go to trash and are permanently removed after 30 days. To delete all data, simply uninstall the app. Since everything is stored locally on your device, uninstalling removes all data permanently.

Yes. EU users can opt in to Mistral AI, a European AI provider based in France, for all AI features including voice transcription, text processing, and embeddings. You can enable this in the App's settings. Mistral AI is also used automatically as a fallback if other providers (Groq, OpenAI) are unavailable in your region.

Memo AI supports transcription in 12+ languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. The language is detected automatically, or you can set a preferred language in Settings.

Yes. You can export notes as Markdown or PDF. You can also share notes via the iOS share sheet, send them directly to NotePlan, or export action items to Apple Reminders.

Recording works offline. Transcription and AI features (note formatting, chat, semantic search) require an internet connection.

Beta updates are delivered automatically through TestFlight. Make sure you have the TestFlight app installed and notifications enabled — you'll receive a notification whenever a new build is available.

Yes. Your notes, folders, and settings are stored locally on your device. When you install the App Store version, it installs over the TestFlight build and all your data carries over automatically. Important: Do not delete the app before installing the App Store version, as uninstalling will permanently delete all local data. As a precaution, you can export a full database backup from Settings beforehand.

Memo AI is currently iPhone-only with all data stored locally on your device. We may explore iCloud sync and multi-device support in the future, but for now Memo is designed to stay lightweight and focused. You can export your notes as Markdown or PDF at any time, and create a full database backup from Settings.

No. Memo AI is available as a subscription.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Memo AI and tap Cancel Subscription. Your access will continue until the end of the current billing period.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. To request a refund, visit Apple's Report a Problem page at reportaproblem.apple.com and follow the instructions. We are unable to process refunds directly.
